Ground has broken on the 400-acre site in Merrillville and site work is commencing, with the first efforts focusing on a technology incubator. "We foresee that incubator and the entire park as being a huge economic driver for all of northwest Indiana," Lasser says. He’s also pleased about the activity he’s seen at the AmeriPlex business park in Portage, where both speculative and build-to-suit projects have brought in business. The Coffee Creek Center residential and commercial development continues to take shape in the Chesterton area, he says. Medical office development there includes the new Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute building. The region’s office market remains healthy, according to Lasser, with occupancy rates in the 90 percent range. The Merrillville market, he says, remains the cornerstone of office development in northwest Indiana. |
